Step 8: Evaluate the mentoring program on a regular basis to ensure its effectiveness and to maximize consumer satisfaction

It is important to evaluate the mentoring program on a regular basis to ensure its effectiveness and to maximize the satisfaction of the mentors and protégés. Some programs simply ask the participants how they are doing at regular intervals. Other programs incorporate a variety of means to measure the outcomes relative to the goals of the program.

Outcomes may be anticipated, that is, as planned. For example, the protégés may attain the goals that they set for the mentoring program. Some outcomes may also be unanticipated, that is, unexpected.

Evaluation of outcomes should consider the perspectives of all stakeholders in the program – the protégés and the mentors.
