Establishing a Mentor Project Step 8: Evaluate the mentoring program on a regular basis to ensure its effectiveness and to maximize consumer satisfaction Back to Step 8. Penn State's Experience: Evaluation of the AAC Mentor Leadership Training Program. There were two parts to the evaluation of the leadership training program that was provided for the mentors to prepare them to be effective mentors. First, the project tracked the acquisition and use of the target strategies by the mentors, that is, the use of LAF and DO IT! strategies. Secondly, the project collected consumer satisfaction data from the mentors who participated in the training at two points in time - immediately after they had completed the training program (prior to being matched with a protégé), and after they had served as a mentor for one year.
