Establishing a Mentor Project Step 4: Identify protégés who would benefit from the mentor program Anyone who is facing challenges in some aspect of life may benefit from having a mentor. People may benefit from having a mentor at any age or any stage of life. Access to a mentor may be especially important for adolescents and young adults because they face so many important transitions in their lives. People may benefit from mentoring for a lot of different reasons educational, vocational, social, or personal. Finding protégés is often relatively easy. It is important that potential protégés are committed to the mentor program. They need to make a commitment to contact their mentor regularly. Protégés must spend time and effort getting to know and sharing experiences with their mentors. When protégés are minors, it is critical to obtain parental consent for them to participate.
