Establishing a Mentor Project Step 10: Plan for the end of the mentor program as required Back to Step 10. Penn State's Experience: What plans were made for the end of the Penn State AAC Mentor Project? From the beginning of the Penn State AAC Mentor Project, participants knew that they were going to be involved for one year. As the end of the year approached, mentors and protégés were each e-mailed to alert them that the end of the project was approaching. The e-mail explained that they were encouraged to remain in contact with each other, but that the Penn State AAC Mentor Project would no longer be formally involved. They were also told the date that the project would end. When protégés were minors, their legal guardians were also contacted to inform them that the AAC Mentor Project was ending. Many participants exchanged their private e-mail addresses in their last postings to each other so that they could remain in touch. More than 90% of the protégés and mentors indicated that they would keep in touch with their partners. |
