spacer About This Site
Who might be interested in this website?
  • This site is especially designed for individuals who use AAC, their families, and the professionals who work with them. It provides information on our experiences with the Penn State AAC Mentor Project. It provides suggestions for starting mentoring programs for individuals who require AAC.
  • The site may also be of interest to other people who have disabilities, their families, and the professionals who work with them. Although the Penn State AAC Mentor Project focused on the needs of individuals with significant communication disabilities who require AAC, there are many aspects of the project that may be relevant to mentoring programs for other groups of people who have disabilities. The experiences from the Penn State AAC Mentor Project may be especially meaningful for individuals who have other types of low incidence disabilities and have limited access to others within their immediate communities who have similar disabilities and can serve as role models.
  • Finally, the site may be of interest to anyone who is considering setting up a mentoring program or who is considering getting involved in a program as a mentor or protégé.
