Mentor Leadership Training Course

You chose:

answer A "Steve, if you’re having trouble at this early stage, I think that you should drop the class. If you want to go to college, you need to get good grades. How’s your school work going anyway? I think you really need to focus on math and English right now."

This is NOT the correct answer.

Here the mentor does not remember to use the LAF, don’t CRY strategy.

In this example, the mentor does not use positive communication skills. The mentor:

  • does not listen to Steve
  • does not ask questions to make sure he understands what Steve is saying
  • does not allow Steve to try to develop his own goals and plans

Instead the mentor:

  • changes the topic
  • reacts quickly without thinking about the impact of his recommendations
  • tells Steve what to do.
