An excerpt from a listserv discussion on ALS Digest...

"I am writing this with VisionKey, a device that tracks the movement of the pupil of my eye. It acts as an alternative keyboard (typing about 1 character per second) and gives me full access to my two computers. Through VisionKey, I have access to the Internet and all its resources. I do my banking and pay my bills online, send and receive e-mail, and activate my speech synthesizer. I recently completed a book about my favorite hobby, - sea music and chanteys. Due to my present limitations, I did all the research and writing using only my right eye, VisionKey, (& computer). Of course, I do have wonderful nurses who are not afraid to push me into libraries. Producing this book of sea chanteys has been one of my dreams. And as I continue to learn, I may have the opportunity to be a teacher. In my mind, that makes me a blessed person on this earth. In May, I was in Washington for ALS awareness week. I spoke to various members of congress about our plight via computer and Gus, my speech software program....It's software only, easy to load, easy to improve pronunciation. I learned to use many extra comma's in my written text to improve the timing in my speeches or joke telling."
